Insulated glass (IG), also named as double glazing or triple glazing, is a type of glass that is made up of two or more panes of glass with air/argon spacer. The most important function of insulated glass is reducing thermal loss, especially Low-e (Low-emissivity) IGU glass, it achieves the energy saving demand.
Thermal Insulation
The air spacer has a very low thermal conductivity with around 0.027, it helps IGU glass to block the heat transfer.
Normal float glass U value is around half of the monolithic glass, if glass with low-e coating, the U value is reduced. hard coated low-e and soft coated low-e both have the different value .
The soft coated low-e is with various type and color, glass with Single silver, double silver or triple silver low-e get very good U value so called it energy saving glass.

From above data sheet, we can see if glass with argon filled in ,the U value get better.
Insulated glass with soft coated low-e, the effect on thermal insulation is better.

Dew Free
Single panel glass outside surface always get the dew in winter cold area, this never happens to insulated glass. Insulated glass is like a sealed cavity which boned with aluminum bar and glass with desiccant. Insulated glass dew point up to -40℃,if filled with argon ,dew point decrease to -80℃.

Air Space
It’s the common option for most insulated glass, there is no any special processing, the normal insulating line is filled with air gas.
Argon Space
Argon is an inert gas with poor thermal conductivity, filling in argon gas helps to reduce heat transfer, also can resist air pressure, avoid glass suction, and improve the wind pressure resistance of glass so that enhance the glass strength.
For the glass which size too big ,it definitely need argon filling.
Lanjing has advanced argon gas filling machine filling the argon on insulating production line automatically,can reach 90-95% concentration of the insulated spacer.
Glass Spacer
Aluminum Spacer
It’s the tradition one used in insulated glass, the advantage is it’s with various thickness, inexpensive, the disadvantage is that it’s with a relative high heat conductivity. The thermal conductivity is approximately 0.112W/K.
Thermal Break Spacer
Also named warm edge spacer, it is made of PP PVC、 plastic materials combined with stainless steel. The thermal conductivity is approximately 0.007W/K. much better than normal aluminum spacer. The main brands we used are Alupro,Technoform,Fenzi,Lisec.
TPS
It’s short of Thermoplastic Spacer, it’s the one without metal material. The plastic is with very low thermal conductivity near to zero, the glass U value is much better. Below is the normal aluminum spacer compared with TPS spacer.
Decorative Bar
The decorative bar material can be aluminum or wood, the shape is rectangle and rhombus, the width for rectangle shape can be up to 20/30/40mm, the max width for rhombus is 18-19mm.

Capillary Tube
Capillary tube is a stainless steel tube with around 1mm diameter,it’s installed on insulated glass edge(from aluminium spacer bar), there are around 50mm part exposed outside to keep air flow inside and outside glass.
it is used for balancing the air pressure inside and outside of insulted glass to avoid glass contract or expand after installation.
U Channels
The U channels normally are aluminum material, embedded into the sealant edge, the air spacer is at least 18mm and the silicon sealant will be around 18-25mm depth.
We have made the U channels with smaller length around 50mm and longer one same size as glass edge.
Stepped Insulated Glass
For some glass curtain walls or skylight, need the insulated glass both sides glass to be different, it’s designed to meet certain structural requirements, such as the corners of hidden frame glass curtain walls.
We make the stepped glass often, it becomes normal in building glass.
It’s to installed the blind between the panes of glass,It has good sound insulation, heat insulation and fire resistance. The blind can be operated with hand working and remote control.
