Introduction of Curved Glass

Overview of bending tempered glass

Curved tempered glass, also known as curved tempered glass, is a kind of glass products processed by a special process, which combines the high strength of tempered glass and the unique shape of curved glass, and is widely used in construction, automobiles, home appliances and other fields.

Production technology

The production process of curved tempered glass is relatively complex, mainly including the following steps:

Heating: the original piece of glass is heated to a plastic state, usually at about 600℃.

Bending: The heated glass is transported to the forming section through ceramic or asbestos rollers, and cooled by wind grids to form the desired curved or other curved faces.

Cooling: Rapid cooling (quenching) is the key step, and the glass is cooled by a grid fan to create compressive stress on its surface, thereby increasing the strength of the glass.

Curved tempered glass has the following characteristics and advantages:

High strength: The strength of bending tempered glass is much higher than that of ordinary glass, the bending strength is 3 to 5 times that of ordinary glass, and the impact strength is 5 to 10 times that of ordinary glass.

Safety: Even if broken, bending tempered glass will form obtuse small particles, reducing the harm to the human body .

Cold and heat resistance: It has good cold and heat resistance, and can withstand large temperature difference changes to reduce the risk of thermal cracking.

Sound insulation effect: sandwiczed with a layer of PVB film (in the case of laminated glass), can effectively block noise and improve indoor comfort.

Wind pressure resistance: The special bending shape makes it have better wind pressure resistance than ordinary tempered glass.

With the development of tempering technology, now tempered curved glass can be divided into:cylindrical bend tempering,Asymmetrical bend tempering, hyperbolic bending glass, double curved glass, and even multi-curved tempered glass.

Curved glass processed with tempering furnace can be heat strengthened, toughened ,and heat soaked, the only difference between flat tempered glass is just the shape.

Application:

Introduction of Curved Glass

Curved tempered glass has below features:

Various glass substrates option: Clear,Low iron, body tinted glass, acid etched,low-E coated glass.

Silk screen, digitally printing process can be applied on glass surface to add extra design element.

Curved glass can further been processed into laminated curved glassto offer extra acoustic ,UV protection, and safety function.

Curved glass can further been processed into insulated curved glass panels to offer extra thermal insulation performance.

Bending tempered glass is widely used in many fields because of its unique properties:

Building: Used to make glass walls, ceilings, handrails, stair guardrail, etc. for sound insulation, shock absorption, wind and fire.

Automobile: as a car front windshield, side window, rear view mirror and other components .

Home appliances: Used in the manufacture of TV, display, refrigerator, microwave oven and other home appliances.

Curved glass gives architects and designers freedom to create aesthetically pleasing curved glazed facades where straightness, corners and edges can be enhanced with soft curves. These curves can be in the form of simple cylindrical shapes to the more complex 3D free form shapes.

Introduction of Curved Glass

Beside glass facade, curved glass can also been applied in below categories:

  • Curved glass showers

  • Curved glass staircases& handrails

  • Curved storefronts & revolving doors

  • Curved glass office partitions.

  • Curved glass skylights &glass greenhouse
