Heat strengthened glass is a type of glass that falls between ordinary flat glass and tempered glass,It has some advantages of tempered glass, such as higher strength than ordinary float glass, which is twice that of ordinary float glass,at the same time, it avoids the unsatisfactory weaknesses of tempered glass, such as poor flatness, easy self explosion, and overall crushing once damaged.
Heat strengthened glass won’t get spontaneous breakage.
The manufacturing process of heat strengthened glass involves heating and cooling at a lower rate, resulting in a surface stress of less than 70N/mm ², typically ranging from 45N/mm ² to 54N/mm ². This characteristic allows heat strengthened glass to crack radially along the crack source when it is damaged, and generally does not experience tangential crack propagation. Therefore, it can still maintain its overall integrity without collapsing after being broken.
In practical applications, heat strengthened glass is commonly used in building fields such as curtain walls. Due to its non self-explosion and stay integrity after breakage, it is safer in high-rise buildings. For example, high-rise buildings such as Shanghai World Financial Center and Guangzhou TV Tower have used heat strengthened glass curtain walls to avoid safety hazards caused by self explosions.
